Painting, fiber, apparel
Mary Mendla is a painter, fiber artist, apparel designer and art instructor with a studio in Thiensville, Wisconsin. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting with a minor focus in Fiber Arts. She has continued her education through independent masters’ level study in artist residencies throughout the US. She is represented by galleries throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest.
Mary’s tonal, abstracted landscape paintings are created through the use of mixed media, including oil and acrylic paints, cold wax medium and a variety of mixed media materials. Her works are often referred to as atmospheres to enter into rather than to simply view two dimensionally.
Mary also creates a complete women’s apparel line, Facets Fashions, which includes classic, basic styles and Shibori dyed wearable art accent pieces. Facets Fashions styles range from fun and funky to elegant evening wear in sizes from Extra Small to 2X.
Mary also holds workshops, private lessons, and Art Mentoring in her Thiensville studio and at art centers throughout the United States. Her topics include Abstract Painting in Oil & Acrylic Paint with Cold Wax Medium and Textile Surface Design Techniques including Shibori, Batik, and Hand Applied Dye Painting.
