Alice Struck Watercolors
Watercolor painting, art therapy
A lifelong resident of southeastern Wisconsin, Alice has sketched and painted as long as she can remember. She made studio space for her art while raising a family of three children in Ozaukee county and became an exhibiting professional watercolor artist when she joined the Cedarburg Artists Guild. Since then, Alice has had many opportunities and experiences, teaching, exhibiting in fairs and showing in galleries throughout Wisconsin. Annually, she shows in Strawberry Festival, Wine & Harvest Festival, and the Holiday Art Fair in Cedarburg. She also paints and exhibits in the June Plein Air Competition and opens her home studio in October for the Covered Bridge Studio Tour. Each year she adds a new event to her calendar; in 2016 it was Madison’s Art Fair On the Square. Her paintings are in the corporate collections of Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company, Robert W. Baird, Pauline Haas Sussex Public Library, Culver’s Restaurant, Atlas Copco Company, St. Mary’s Hospital, Mequon, and the Racine Art Museum’s Permanent Collection as well as many private patrons. As an extension of her community outreach, she served on the Cedarburg Cultural Center’s Board of Directors and teaches watercolor painting in its art education program to Beginning, Intermediate and Continuing Students. Alice brings her love for art making to her teaching and to her clients as an art therapist at Wellspring of Milwaukee, where she has been employed for 25 years.
Alice says her most important decision was choosing watercolor, which shapes the ways she sees and approaches a painting. Watercolor is a viable, instantly responsive medium;it’s sparkle, transparency and freshness are unparalleled. Alice’s subjects are the natural landscapes of Wisconsin, urban and architectural environments, portraits and closeups of ordinary things. She loves the gesture and energy of painting to the ragged edge and honoring the uncontrived surprises which give watercolor its beauty.
